Thanksgiving Feast: Our 2014 Plans

When you move away from family the holidays seem to add a heavier weight to your heart. Until 3 years ago we never had to wonder what we were doing for the holidays we already knew. Our biggest hurtle was figuring outof what we were contiburlting that year and how to fit all the places in one day.

Since we are no longer close to our families physically we now have to decide what to do...
luckily we have met some amazing people (the bestie Tracy) in the area and we have been invited to join thier family for the second year this Turkey day.

We will be filling our bellies and enjoying our extended family Sunday since three of us gals work overnight.

They do a potluck style and everyone contributes a few dishes for us all to share.

I am bringing truffles (peanut butter and oreo) some veggies and drinks :)

I cant wait to be surrounded by this amazing family Sunday!

What are your Turkey Day plans?

Freshly Picked Friday!

Here is their Story:

Susan Petersen started making baby moccasins in 2009 after becoming frustrated by the lack of well-designed baby shoes. Usin...g her second child, Gus, as a mocc-tester, and a bag of scrap leather she picked up at a yard sale, she began experimenting with designs. Working at her kitchen table, on a shoestring budget, Susan persisted through some disastrous attempts until she had created a pair of moccasins that not only looked adorable on Gus’ chubby little feet, but stayed on his feet as well.

Since then the moccasins have gone through about six design changes. Each change has perfected the look and the fit of the soft-soled shoe. The moccasins you purchase today are durable, well designed, and most importantly: stay on your child’s foot.

The ladies over at Freshly Picked were kind enough to share a pair of their handmade moccs with Boo for us to enjoy!

There is something about this kid that is very PICKY about her shoes and what can I say these were a hit!

They are handmade and amazingly soft and too cute to boot!

So come join us and WIN your FREE pair or Freshly Picked Mocs!
Winner announced next Friday on the blog!

Tips and Tricks Thursday: Fitting it all in...

When your a mom of 3 girls all school age its is a full time job...
add a marriage... full time job #2 is on your resume...
Then you add your full time retail job... we are up to 3
Mix in part time student and freelance photographer you add two part times and make the count to 4 full times...
Then adding your two small buisnesses your building...well we are up to 6 full time jobs in a 20 hour period...
I only count 20 because I sleep for 4...

You may think I am totally insaine to take this all on but I honestly love it.

I also did not count my blogs, house cleaning, errands, appointments and everything else required to function..

Time management is my BFF.
I also am addicted to To Do Lists, my planner, and the goal of reaching a better life for me and the family.

Since I work  over night my days start usually around noon...
now I won't lie there are days where I get called to wake up at 2:45 because I over slept but its rare...

When I get home I start on the blog or on homeowrk until 8-8:30 then its off to dream land.
Since the paper is as needed bases I squeeze it in as needed.

When I wake up its finishing up homework and cleaning up the house until 3 when I go get the kiddies from school.

Then its time for homework for them and I start working on laundry dinner and utilize my smart phone to do stuff for the biz...

Then I sneak in time with the hubby and get the girls ready for school the next day. Around 8:30 I get ready to go to work until 7am...

On my off days its a race to get caught up in everything I didnt get accomplished that week or try to get a head start on the next week.
Since I work on weekends I sleep a few hours during the day.
The hubby and kids take this time to do a few chores around the house to help lessen the load on mommy... I ♡ it!

Its nice to wake up and not see a million things to be cleaned.

Since we are only 3 months into this new routine I am still working on making this schedule work for us. I still try different sleep schedules to see what benifits us the best as a family and things I can do to help us all pitch in to help each other.

After a thanksgiving break I wilk be introducing chores for the kids and ways for them to earn treats for helping.

Stay tuned on how that pans out...

My 5 Latest Addictions:

As much as I would just like to say my only addiction right now is being in a warm place with our VERY early winter weather this year I would be lying. :)
Thanks to the freezing weather I had  3 addictions to add this time :)

Aquafina Lip Balm:

With winter making her presents known early this year we have been feeling the pain of dry lips!
Mine got so bad it busted open in my sleep and started to bleed :(
I am NOT a huge lip wear gal and 99.99% of the time (even if I do apply makeup) I do not wear ANYTHING on my lips. I am just not a fan of it anymore.

I do however LOVE these! It goes on smooth and silky and I don't feel like I sticky toddler... which my friends is a great thing! Another thing that I love about this is that they come in a 4 pack for less than $3!!! Hell yeah!

When your a mom of three girls.... there is one for you each :)

O'Keeffe's Working Hands:

Originally we hunted down this stuff for the hubby. He is an electrician and when outside in the elements and working with your hands needless to say they don't always stay so purty...

We found this at Lowe's in the Paint Department but I have also seen it at The Home Depot.
It is a little pricy BUT WELL WORTH IT!

Since I am working overnight I started to use it too this winter, cardboard and girly hands are never going to be BFF's. The cardboard dries out your skin and cuts your hands and by the end of your 9 hours you have lost the fight against boxes...

Laugh if you will it is true!

Now when you add freezing temps outside we are in a WHOLE NEW problem, we now add dry cracking bleeding hands on top of dryness from cardboard...

But this stuff is AMAZING!
It last a while too so it is worth every penny!

Slacker Radio:

I LOVE music and all kinds of it, Since I am home all day by my lonesome when I am not asleep and I listening to my friends like Queen, The Beatles, Selena Gomez, Linkin Park, Florida Georgia Line, Marilyn Manson, Gold Finger, Sublime and Pink serenade me through out my daily to dos...  Thank you Slacker!

The Walking Dead:

Blame the bestie!
This is our favorite guilty pleasure so far...
We are finishing up season 3 now and ready to see what happens next...

Chalkboard Products:

I am LOVING the chalkboard trend right now, I don't know why this is not something I didn't think about but it is ENGENIOUS!

I would have this stuff everywhere!

My husband is rolling his eyes and waiting out the trend, while he is wondering how he could kill it himself I am sure.

I have them in the kitchen mainly but I hope to add a few items in the girls rooms soon too...

So what are your MUST haves right now?
What are your thoughts on ours...
Let us know!

November= Thankfulness: My List

As I am sure most of you have seen the month of November makes people in social media all of a sudden voicetrious on thing they are thankful for. Each day they post something or someone they are thankful for. I know how easy it is for life to catch us in its grasp and how easy it is for us all to get caught up with our day to days that we don't think about expressing the things we are most thankful for throughout the year.
Last year I participated in this and did the daily post but I decided not to this year.
it is not because I am not thankful I just personally challenged myself to take a moment each day and think about what I am thankful for 365 days and not just 30 days.

Here are the things I am most thankful for:

My Girls:
So they drive me crazy but they aare mine. The reason I breathe, these 3 are my life and i am honored to be called mommy by them.

My Husband:
Sure we have had our trials but he is my rock. We have stuck by one another no matter how bad things have gotten and I am lucky to have him as my partner in crime.

My Family:
From my in laws to my cousins and everyone in between. I may not always get a along with them all and I may not always get the chance to tell them but they all hold a spit in my heart.

My Education:
I am a huge fan of education and actually LOVE going to school and the opportunity to do so. I think this is a vital part of who I am.

My Friends:
From the two best beasties to the amazing co workers I have there is something about having that bond with people that makes the little stressful things easier to handle.

My Job:
So many can't work and I am thankful I have the ability to do so. I take pride in my job and being able to have it.

My Health:
I am so very lucky my body allows me to do the things I do.

My Home:
Having the luxury of a place to rest my head with my kids and hubby is something some don't have. I am thankful for us to have a place to call home.

What are you most thankful for?

Tips and Tricks Thursday: Managing Children With Unique Personalities: My Top MUST Haves

I am not only a mother of 3 girls ages 12,11 and 7 but my children have unique personalities.
When I say unique I am refering to their "disorders" they have been labled with in todays society.
I do not like to label them as a disorder as I believe this causes more psychological challenges for them especially in the "finding yourself" stages all preteens and teens face.
I look at these as challenges, uniqueness (though it is now more common for you to have one or more) gifts by NEVER have refered them as a disorder.

Here is what I face daily.
D is a 12 year old currently in 7th grade and SUPER smart! She's in all the gifted programs and advanced classes.
By the time she was 5 she was diagnosed with ADHD, Anxiety and Insmonia.
As the years progressed we have added ODD and Mood Disorder to her list of gifts.

Unfortunately due to the severity of all of her challenges we had to make the decision and have her medicated.
I will be honest. I was young, uneducated and totally blamed myself for her receiving these gifts.
I was in shock and refused to believe for a long time that there was something "wrong" with my baby.

When it comes to meds this is ALWAYS a trial and error process. We have had so many errors with her and due to the lack attention from doctors we got to a point to where she was becoming to be at an unhealthy weight and not gaining any at all. She weighed the same for SEVERAL years even after I mentioned it at every appointment.
They always said she's was fine and it was hereditary for her to be small because I am.

Luckily we changed doctors, meds and together we have got her back to a healthy weight. THANK GOD!

Then I have Boo.
Boo is 7 years old and in 2nd grade. She is also a smart cookie but she was denied to be in the gifted program and that's ok with me :)
Once she started Kindergarten I knew she was ADHD also...
After talking to her teacher we decided not to test her that year and allow us to try and teach her how to manage the impulses that come with ADHD.
We survived the year and was headed into 1st grade.
I had an ANGLE placed as her teacher that year because we worked together on testing her, medication decisions, and the best way to help her manage it all.
The communication between the two of us not only helped myself but helped Boo adjust to a daily meds, staying focused and applying the extra energy in a positive way while in the classroom.

With these two in the same house we always have fun between the age gap and the fact that they BOTH like to aggravate each other on purpose  there is rarely a quite moment in the house espicailly in the morning getting ready for school, getting them to do homework and getting ready for bed.

As a mom this is a constant "chore". Not only do you have to keep them motivated (they are procrastinators by nature)  but you have to keep track of meds (who takes what at what time) , appointments (TONS of these are needed when medicating), counseling (more for the complicated ones liked), grades,  behavior, and additudes are ALWAYS in full swing.
There are days where I just want to pull my hair out, cry my eyes out, or honestly give up (the older they are the harder it gets) but I know that I was blessed with them and their  "gifts" because at the end of it all I AM strong enough to guide them and help them through these challenges in life and raise them to be successful women in society.
AND on top of them I am 99.99% sure the hubby is also ADHD and or bipolar though he has not been diagnoised lol... Unless you want to start call in me Dr. Jones :)

How do I manage it all?
I honestly don't know some days but I do have a few things I do and or go to to help the sanity :)
Here they are:

ROUTINE:

I can not stress this enough! These kids function better on a routine for EVERYTHING!
In the mornings, at night, after school, its even helpful on the weekends!
Developing routines and keeping them is a HUGE sanity helper and not just for me but also for the hubby and the baby sitter.

They recommend sticky notes to be used to keep them on track but needless to say as much as I LOVE sticky notes myself I am not ready or willing to wallpaper my house with them anytime soon.

I received an A Frame chalk board for my birthday from the bestie in Cali and I was thrilled! it sits in my kitchen and displays the girls "To Do Lists"

Side A: Morning:
This is great because they can "check" off what they have done and know what they need to finish before going out the door when we are not here. This is also great for the sitter because she is aware on what is expected of them.
Since we started this I have not come home to a house full of lights on, or getting a phone call that a certain someone (D) has forgotten her lunch...again... like usual... (This is a rude awaking to tired mama who is half asleep when I get the call)

Side B: Afternoon:

Same concept as morning except this also keep the hubby on track just in case I fall asleep for a afternoon nap on accident. (It happens what can I say)

SUPPORT:

I am so lucky to have a HUGE support group. There are days where these people hold me up and drag me back to reality. Meet the team! (They are in no particular order)
The hubby!
10 years together and he is still crazy enough to hang out with 4 girls on a daily bases. He is also my best enforcer when I have had all can take.

The life long bestie and the girls God-Mama!
This girl is my rock and has been for almost 20 years! Though we are not daily talkers we are not hesitant to call one another when we NEED it!
Ugh I miss her!

My Mom and Step Dad
Here is another man who should have ran a LONG time ago LOL
These two have been there from the very beginning with my adventures with D.
Being a teen mom these two really helped me when I needed it and supported me on choices.
My mom and I used to talk daily but since I now work nights our chats are rare :(
But she will be getting a text about D and her PE grade... She is JUST LIKE HER NANA!
(She won't dress out smh... see what I deal with!)

Biological Dad and his side of the family.

Though a newer addition to the support group they have really taken everything in  stride.
My Grand-Parents:
These two are AMAZING! My grandma I will admit is the first one I text or call when I need advise, have a question or just need her to slap me into reality!
They have been a HUGE part of my life growing up and I am so blessed that they continue to be in my children's lives... Now if I can figure out how to get Cali closer to Arkansas I would have it made!

My Siblings and Cousins:
ALL of them! I have 8 siblings! 4 brothers and 4 sisters and though I am not as close as I would like to be to some of them (Jess, Zach, Dom, Sam, and Cody) I am so thankful that I have them!

My brother Robert has been a HUGE influence on D and he has really been able to chat with her about things that I just don't get.
My sister Crystal also has "gifted" children with similar challenges and I am so thankful we are going through these things together, honestly I am not sure when the last time was we didn't have a convo with out a mention of these kids lol
As for my cousins I have so many but the majority of us are close and I LOVE it!
It is so nice to have different opinions on some things. It is also nice to be able to spread the "bitching" around so one person doesn't get tired of it :)

The local Bestie!
I am pretty sure we talk, text, or FB one another from the time we wake up to the time we go to sleep. We have our wine nights and our laughs and vent sessions, our almost nightly coffee chats (on my way to work) and more.
She is a huge part of our lives!

 The Hubby's Family.
So we are missing a few in this pic (2 of his siblings, their spouses and kids) but overall you get the idea.
They have been there with the older two since they were little and they have seen all the trial and errors when D was first diagnosed.
They helped keep me straight, educated and informed on where to go, who to see and what to do and to this day there for it all though they are so far away.

Friends!
I think that this is a HUGE part! We have friends who children are also ADHD and maybe a dash of something else and it is nice to chat with other parents. I started doing this working at BAM. I was and still am so thankful for sharing "war" stories with Mandy that I truly miss it! Our daughter are the same age and we would "compare" notes from the night before LOL
These are the people who have our back and are willing to lend a hand, an ear or even a shoulder!

 My Daddy and God-Father

There is really no words to express my love for these men. I was very blessed when I was raised with my dad and him and my mom chose my god-father. It was a perfect fit.
These two have been BFF's for 30+ years and took on the task to guide me (no one said they were smart men ;) just kidding) in my life.

I have ran these two ragged over the years and yet I can still call, text or cry for them if needed.

My heart is full with these two... my heroes!

FUN and LAUGHTER:

I have learned in life you can't always be so serious...
We try to do our best and have some fun and do fun things as a family.
The Zoo, themed cook outs, birthday parties, bon fires, wine nights and more.

10 years together and we still act like teens.. smh.. he was saying I am not taking a damn selfie! HA! Got him :)

Patience and Understanding:

These two are the hardest for me. With 4 hours a sleep a day I am thin on both. I know that there are some things they can not help and then there are things that they KNOW they can not do and I want to scream and yell and say what the hell!

It is hard some days and others it is OUR normal.
I have read articles, talked to other parents, talked to counselors, cried to many of my supporters in my group, breathed, lost my self in work, thrown up my hands, shook my head, and PRAYED over the challenges we have face with them and for the ones we have yet to come to.

I think that if it was not for these  4 things I would have already gone CRAZY!

What are some things that you recommend?

Which Do You Prefer Wednesday and Why?

Chicken Vs. Beef

Chicken by far, I am not a red meat eater really and have not been for 16 years now. I did however take a break from this eating habit when I got pregnant with the oldest. To be honest I CRAVED it lol

Yellow vs. White Cheese

Is there really a bad cheese? LOL
I honestly don't have a favorite kind just ALL of it!

Hot Sauce vs Mild Sauce

I am not a spicy food person but I can handle a little kick in certain and very few foods and so my choice would be mild. :)

White vs Wheat Bread

White is defiantly the choice for me, needless to say I am not a very healthy eater.

Fleece vs Flannel

I LOVE flannel! Love the plaid style love the shirts and apparently I am a little country.
I do like some fleece but I am a flannel girl all the way :)

Contacts vs Glasses

I am not a fan of the geek gear, though I hear they look great on me. I am a 24/7 contact wearing kind of gal, and yes I get yelled at when I go to the eye doctor because if it. :/

Lip Stick, Chap Stick or Lip Gloss:

Ummm none? I honestly hardly ever use any of these things. I had a phase where I had a love affair with each but now days I am au natural. I will use chap stick if it is cold out and my lips are chapped but other than that these lips stay naked.

I am not sure why the change of heart over time but maybe it is lack of time?

Bangs vs No Bangs

For me I have personally have only had bangs once in my life since I have had control over my own hair. Needless to say when I did it I was 14 and I looked... well... umm... yeah...

I have not had them since and I do not plan on having them unless they are long bangs to the side and utilized into the current hair cut. I do not think that I have the face for it no the hair, I have SUPER think hair and I just don't look right!

I do love some looks with bangs and I wish I could pull them off but I will not kid myself and leave them to the people who can... like... my sister.

House into a Home: A Room to Makeover

With the new house we are able to make it really show our personalizes and style with décor and what I am most excited about paint!
Each room in the new place is pretty much decided on what "theme" and or color scheme planned out.
The hardest choice for me was to choose which room to start in...
I have found it easier to concentrate one room at a time versus trying to keep up with it all. Now don't get me wrong if I find something for an amazing deal for a room and I think I HAVE to have it and I have the extra cash flow well you better believe I will snag it up :)
After long arguments with myself I decided that the first room I was concentrating on was the kitchen.
Part of the reason I chose this room first is because this seems to be where I spend most of my time (imagine that right?), also I was SUPER lucky to receive a mini shopping spree from my bestie in Cali for my 30th last month and the majority of our house warming gifts were kitchen related including the Keurig machine we got from my other bestie! (yes I am blessed)
Theme:
The kitchen theme is Café so the colors are shades of brown, red and white with accents of black.
Plans:
I do plan on painting the cabinets and paneling that it in there and have the colors picked out. Now just to have the time to paint. I also will be changing out the hardware, redoing the back splash and redoing the counter tops (though the last two will not be till much later)
I also want to change out the lighting in there and add some more to make it brighter so my blind butt can see and when I say I, I actually mean the hubby (thank God for him being an electrician).
I want to add in mobile kitchen island and possibly even knocking out the nook area and turning it into a pantry down the road.
The flooring is new and luckily we should only have one appliance to eventually change out but I am happy with leaving what we have there until it croaks out on us.
Wish List:
Here are a few things I would love to add to the space.
Island:

We have this place in there that I guess is for a breakfast nook or small table but to me if you add those things it takes up too much space and cramps the area.
I LOVE THIS!  I could even utilize its counter space and find something similar for the counters in there to make it all tie in together in the end.

Wall Art

This has been the hardest thing for me to decide on. I think that ultimately I will be making my own utilizing my own photography work. Now to break out the camera :)

Dishes

I have had the same set of ugly blue and white dishes for lets say FOREVER! I have wanted a new set for about as long but had not decided on a style and or a color/print.
I have found that white will be my best bet and I am totally in love with THIS set!

We are not really in a HUGE need for things in the kitchen, sure I need a new toaster since I dropped ours, and I would love to have a few small appliances new bake ware etc. but they can always be used for gift ideas down the line lol..

HAVES:

I was telling you that we already had a few new things in the kitchen that I have been gifted along the way.

The start of coffee corner:

This is what I call coffee corner.
It is all things coffee!
The canisters were a new addition and part of my mini shopping spree.
They are chalkboard and I LOVE them!
They are currently holding sugar, creamer, cocoa, and cups (the to go cups I take to work with me)
I also added a K-Cup organizer to the mini shopping spree and I am thrilled that I can have the space utilized there.
Both items where found on Amazon.com and under $20 each!
SCORE!

Keurig

This bad boy is also part of the coffee corner and needless to say is a hit for everyone but the hubby who only uses it to make me coffee on my way home from work on the weekends.
The kids love it for hot chocolate and teas and well I am just happy that I can actually get a HOT cup of coffee :)

Chalkboard

I have to say that this is my favorite new addition!
Since I am not home in the mornings with the girls and the hubby leaves so early, we have our old neighbor girls come by the house to lend a hand getting them to school.
Thank God for amazing people like that!
I know how difficult it is to get those girlies to do what they are supposed too when you want them too at times especially in the mornings when they are so NOT morning people.
I thought this was a great way to help keep all the girls on track :)
So far it has helped them remember what they are supposed to do and gets them out the door with less fights.

Since this bad boy is double sided I can use the other side for holiday greetings, menu or whatever we need it for, and since it is chalk board I can easily change, add, remove or do away with what there and re do it!

This was also found on amazon.com and was on sale for 50% off!

I think I would have something like this in EVERYROOM if it did not make me look ummm well crazy.

We have also gathered new dish clothes, towels etc. for the kitchen.

I can't wait to keep you all posted on the process, the before and after's and all the joys that come with this room make over.

Which room would you have chosen to do first?
